How do I insulate my dog house properly?
Choose a house raised off the ground on feet, with thick walls and an overhanging roof that keeps rain away. An insulated floor and an off-set entrance sheltered from wind limit heat loss in winter. In summer, favour ventilation and a shaded spot to avoid overheating.
What size of dog house should I choose?
Your dog should be able to enter, turn around and lie down without being cramped, but not too much either: an oversized house holds heat poorly. Measure it standing and lying down, then add a few centimetres. If in doubt between two sizes, pick the one that best suits its resting position.
