Rabbit food
Feeding a rabbit: hay all day long
The rabbit is a strict herbivore whose digestive system works non-stop. Its ration must rest above all on unlimited hay, topped up with a small amount of fibre-rich pellets and a little greenery. At AnimalParadise, we favour foods that respect this delicate system rather than seed mixes, which are too fatty and unbalanced for it.
How much hay should a rabbit ration contain?
Hay should make up around 80% of the daily diet and stay available at all times. Rich in long fibres, it keeps transit moving, prevents intestinal stasis and wears down teeth that never stop growing. A rabbit short of hay quickly develops digestive and dental problems.
Pellets or a seed mix?
Always prefer uniform extruded pellets, high in fibre and low in starch, in a small measured portion each day. Mixes with seeds, flakes and dried fruit encourage the rabbit to sort its food, promoting obesity and deficiencies. Our pellets are formulated to complement hay, not replace it.
Our range of rabbit food
- Quality hay : timothy, alfalfa or meadow hay, offered freely as the absolute base of the ration.
- Extruded pellets : fibre-rich formulas, given in a small measured amount every day.
- Greens and herbs : dried herbs and plants offered as a complement to add variety and stimulate appetite.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: limit pellets to about 25 g per 1 kg of body weight and weigh the portion, since an excess leads to overweight and a sluggish gut.
AnimalParadise selects reliable hays and pellets and delivers throughout Europe, to give your rabbit a healthy, consistent ration.
