Garden pond

A balanced pond: clear water, thriving plants and healthy fish.

In short: caring for a garden pond rests on three pillars — planting properly (the right baskets and compost), keeping the water clear (clarifiers, conditioners) and treating imbalances (algae, disease). AnimalParadise brings these three product families together so you can act at the right time.

Where do I start when setting up a pond?

Plant first: each aquatic plant goes into an openwork basket filled with aquatic compost, then topped with gravel so the soil doesn't cloud the water. Then fill the pond, neutralising the chlorine in tap water with a conditioner. Plants and a good filter do most of the work; treatments only step in when something is out of balance.

Why does my pond water turn green or cloudy?

Green water is caused by suspended micro-algae, encouraged by sunlight and excess nutrients. Cloudy water comes from fine suspended particles. In both cases a clarifier clumps these particles so the filter can trap them; in the longer term, more plants and less fish food keep it in check.

AnimalParadise expert tip: always treat the cause before the symptom. Before adding an algae treatment, check shade, plant density and how much food you give: an over-fed, over-sunny pond will turn green again despite treatments.

You will also find pond fish food to complete your pond care.
