Bat

The bat, a nocturnal ally against mosquitoes

Often misunderstood, the bat is in fact a precious helper in the garden: a single pipistrelle can devour thousands of insects in one night, mosquitoes included. These flying mammals, all protected, suffer from a lack of roosts. By offering them a suitable shelter, you encourage their presence and naturally reduce bothersome insects. AnimalParadise offers bat boxes and roosts to welcome these night-time hunters near your home.

How do you install a bat box?

Fix the box up high, at least 3 or 4 metres above the ground, on a wall or trunk well exposed to the sun and clear of any obstacle below the entrance. Choose a quiet spot, away from bright lights. Bats sometimes discover a new shelter slowly: be patient for several weeks, or even a season, before a colony settles in.

Why encourage bats in your garden?

Because they are formidable insectivores: mosquitoes, midges and moths make up most of their menu. Welcoming them means reducing summer nuisances without insecticide, while supporting fragile, protected species. A simple roost, combined with a pesticide-free garden rich in insects, is enough to help them for the long term.

Our range for bats

  • Bat boxes and roosts : flat shelters with narrow slits, in wood or woodcrete, that recreate their natural hiding places.
  • Models for walls and trunks : roosts to fix up high, facing south, to provide the warmth colonies need.
  • Mounting accessories : fixings and brackets suited to installing the box firmly and durably, without hindering take-off.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: install the roost up high, facing south and away from night lighting that disturbs bats. Never disturb an established colony: these species are protected by law.

To welcome these precious insectivores, AnimalParadise selects roosts designed for their comfort and safety. Order in a few clicks and enjoy fast delivery throughout Europe.
