Peanut bird feeders

Peanuts released a fragment at a time

Rich in fat, peanuts are a treat much sought after by tits, nuthatches and woodpeckers. But they should not be given loose: the peanut feeder traps the nuts behind a metal mesh, forcing birds to peck off small fragments. This slow release avoids dangerous whole pieces and makes the supply last.

Why a mesh feeder for peanuts?

The metal mesh holds whole peanuts and lets only small fragments through, which the bird pecks off. This stops a chick swallowing a whole piece, which is dangerous for it, and extends the supply. The fine mesh is specially sized for peanuts.

Should peanuts be salted or roasted?

Never. Garden birds need plain peanuts, unsalted, unroasted and unflavoured. Salt is toxic to them. Choose peanuts intended for bird feeding and make sure they stay dry in the feeder to avoid mould.

Our range of peanut feeders

  • Metal mesh silos : a sturdy mesh tube that resists the beak and releases peanuts in fragments.
  • Rust-proof dispensers : treated mesh that lasts outdoors season after season without corrosion.
  • Quick-refill models : top opening or removable base to fill with no effort or waste.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: prefer a metal mesh to cheap resin: a powerful woodpecker or parakeet beak can crack plastic and release dangerous whole pieces.

Treat tits and nuthatches with a suitable peanut feeder: AnimalParadise offers a wide choice of mesh models, delivered across Europe.
