Nail care
Caring for your dog’s nails safely
Overly long nails hamper walking and can split or grow into the pad. At AnimalParadise, our dog nail clippers and files let you keep the length in check regularly, without pain or stress. A simple but delicate task, to be done with the right tool and good lighting.
How do I trim nails without hurting my dog?
Locate the living part, called the quick, which holds the blood vessels: always cut a few millimetres before it, in small slices. On light nails the quick is pink and visible; on dark nails, advance very gradually so you never cut too short.
Clippers or an electric file?
The clipper (scissor or guillotine type) works quickly and suits most dogs. The file or electric grinder refines and rounds the edge, ideal for dogs sensitive to cutting or to finish neatly after the clipper.
Our range of nail care
- Scissor clippers : precise jaws for the thin nails of small dogs.
- Guillotine clippers : a clean blade for the thick nails of large dogs.
- Files and grinders : a rotating abrasive to round and smooth after cutting.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: always keep a styptic powder within reach; if you cut too short, it quickly stops the small bleeding from the quick.
