How do I choose the right wheel size?
Size is the number one criterion. A wheel that is too small forces the animal to run with a curved back, which tires its spine over time. Allow around 20 cm in diameter for a mouse or gerbil, 28 to 30 cm for a Syrian hamster and more for a rat. The rule is simple: when the animal runs, its back should stay straight, without a marked arch.
