Sunflower seeds

Sunflower, a concentrated energy source to dose well

Rich in oil and highly palatable, the sunflower seed is one of birds’ favourites, in the cage as in the garden. It is real fuel: its high lipid content provides quickly available energy, valuable in cold weather. At AnimalParadise, we offer several forms of sunflower to suit every beak and every need.

Why do birds love sunflower so much?

Sunflower is very rich in fats, which makes it a particularly prized energy source. Tits, greenfinches, chaffinches and parakeets spot it immediately and eat it first. Its lipid content helps birds maintain their body temperature in winter and supports intense efforts such as breeding or moulting.

Should sunflower seeds be limited?

Yes, sunflower is offered as an energy supplement, not as the only food. Too rich when given alone, it can unbalance the ration and encourage weight gain. The ideal is to add it to a varied mix, increasing its share in winter and reducing it in fine weather, when energy needs drop.

Our sunflower seed range

  • Striped sunflower : classic in-shell seeds, rich in energy and easy to crack open.
  • Black sunflower : small, very oily seeds, favoured by garden birds.
  • Sunflower hearts : shelled, waste-free seeds, ideal for tidy feeders.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: always combine sunflower with other seeds and watch the quantities: an excess of oily seeds can unbalance the diet and tire sedentary birds.

Choose the sunflower form best suited to your birds in our dedicated range. AnimalParadise ensures fast, careful delivery throughout Europe.
