Removing dead hair with the right brush
The brush is the tool that rids the coat of its dead hair. At AnimalParadise, our dog brushes, slicker brushes and curry combs capture shedding hair, air out the undercoat and stimulate circulation at the skin. Regular brushing cuts down on hair around the home and keeps the coat healthy, especially during moulting seasons.
Which brush should I choose during moulting?
During moulting, a slicker brush or a fine-toothed curry comb efficiently pulls out the dead undercoat that builds up. For short hair, a rubber brush or a grooming glove is enough; for dense coats, choose a de-shedding tool that removes the fluff without damaging the topcoat.
How often should I brush my dog?
Brushing two to three times a week suits most dogs, stepping up to daily in spring and autumn, the heavy shedding seasons. Regular sessions prevent a build-up of dead hair and tangles, while offering a moment of contact your dog will enjoy.
Our range of dog brushes
- Slicker brushes : fine bent teeth to pull out the dead undercoat and break up clumps.
- Curry combs and rakes : blades or teeth to thin out dense coats in full moult.
- Brushes and gloves : soft pins or rubber to smooth short hair and massage the skin.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: always brush in the direction of the hair and without pressing too hard; a slicker used too vigorously can irritate the skin and cause redness.
