Ear care for dogs
Dog ear care: cleaning and preventing ear infections
A dog’s ear canal, bent and often hairy, easily traps wax and moisture, an ideal breeding ground for infections. Regular care with a suitable cleaner removes the excess without harming the lining. AnimalParadise offers ear lotions and drying accessories to keep ears healthy and odour-free.
How often should I clean my dog’s ears ?
A weekly check is enough for most dogs, with cleaning every two to four weeks. Breeds with floppy ears or dogs that swim often need more attention. Instil the lotion, massage the base of the ear for a few seconds, then let your dog shake its head before wiping the flap.
How do I spot the start of an ear infection ?
A red, warm, smelly ear or a dog that scratches and tilts its head should raise concern. Abundant brown wax is also a sign. Gentle, regular cleaning limits these episodes, but an established infection needs a vet’s advice.
Our range of ear care products
- Ear cleaning lotion : dissolves wax and cleanses the canal without irritating the lining.
- Drying solution : reduces residual moisture after a bath or swim to prevent maceration.
- Pads and wipes : to gently wipe the flap and the entrance of the canal.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: Never push a cotton swab into the canal: you pack the wax towards the eardrum. Fill the ear with lotion, massage, then let your dog shake out the debris by shaking its head.
