Canaries
Feeding your canaries well
A small straight-billed songbird, the canary is prized for its voice and colours. A suitable diet, rich in canary seed and low in fat, helps it sing more and keep a radiant plumage.
Which seed should dominate a good canary mix?
Canary seed should form the base of the mix, rounded out with rapeseed, linseed and a little niger. This balance covers a small straight bill’s needs without weighing it down with overly fatty seeds.
How do I encourage song and plumage colour?
During the moult and the singing season, add an egg food and sprouted seeds. Carotenoid intake supports the intensity of the reds and yellows in the plumage.
Our range of canary food
- Canary seed mixes : blends led by canary seed, rapeseed and linseed for everyday feeding.
- Egg foods and sprouting seeds : egg pâtés and seeds to sprout for the moult and song.
- Plumage supplements : cuttlebone, grit and colour-feeding seeds for vivid plumage.
The AnimalParadise expert tip: serve the egg food in the morning and remove it before noon in summer: fresh, it fuels the moult; left in the cage, it spoils fast and tires the bird.
All our items ship quickly to the whole of Europe, supporting your canaries from the moult through to the singing season.
