Eye care for dogs
Dog eye care: cleaning and limiting tear staining
Secretions in the corner of the eye, brownish tear marks on light fur or dust caught in the lashes are common, especially in flat-faced or long-haired breeds. Gentle, regular cleaning keeps your dog’s eyes comfortable. AnimalParadise offers eye cleaners and lotions for delicate everyday care.
How do I clean my dog’s eyes without hurting them ?
Soak a clean pad with saline or eye lotion, then wipe from the inner corner outwards, never touching the cornea directly. Use a fresh pad for each eye to avoid transferring any impurities. Work calmly, holding the head without forcing it.
Where do the tear marks under the eyes come from ?
This tearing, very visible on light fur, results from excess tear secretions that oxidise on contact with air and turn brown. Daily cleaning with a dedicated lotion reduces these marks and prevents skin irritation, but sudden or heavy tearing warrants a vet’s opinion.

The AnimalParadise expert tip: Never use regular cotton wool, which leaves fibres on the cornea: choose a lint-free pad and a specific eye product, at room temperature for greater comfort.
