Description
Gently manage your birds' breeding
This set of 5 plastic dummy eggs mimics the shape and size of the eggs of small parakeets and parrots — cockatiels, lovebirds and agapornis. Placed in the nest, they let the breeder keep control of the clutch without disturbing the birds.
Two uses in breeding
Synchronise hatching. The female starts brooding as soon as the first egg is laid, which creates growth gaps: the first-hatched get the upper hand over the last for food and space. By removing each real egg as it is laid and replacing it with a dummy egg, then reintroducing all the real eggs on the last day, you get grouped hatching and a more uniform brood.
Stop repeated laying. Some females — common in lovebirds and agapornis — lay relentlessly and exhaust themselves (loss of calcium). By leaving dummy eggs in the nest, the female “believes” she is brooding and stops laying, giving her time to rebuild her reserves.

Frequently asked questions
Do dummy eggs really fool the female?
Yes. Their size and shape imitate a real egg; the female broods them like her own, which is enough to interrupt laying or to wait for the complete clutch.
How long should they be left in the nest?
For the duration of a normal brooding (about three weeks depending on the species). After that time with no hatching, the female abandons the nest: the dummies are then removed.
Are they suitable for other birds?
They are sized (3 cm) for cockatiels, lovebirds and agapornis. For smaller species such as the canary, or larger ones, choose a model of the appropriate size.
Are they reusable?
Yes. Made of washable plastic, they can be cleaned and reused from one breeding season to the next.
