Improve water quality

Clear, balanced water, from the first fill to seasonal upkeep.

In short: water quality comes down to three things — neutralising chlorine when filling, clarifying green or cloudy water, and stabilising the pH. Each situation has its own product, chosen according to the volume of your pond.

Our range for water quality

  • Water conditioners (e.g. AquaSafe): neutralise chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals in tap water when filling or topping up.
  • Clarifiers (e.g. Crystal Water): clump the fine suspended particles behind cloudy water so the filter can trap them.
  • Green-water treatments (e.g. AlgoRem): flocculate the suspended micro-algae that turn water green.
  • pH stabilisers (e.g. Water Stabiliser): strengthen the buffering capacity (carbonate hardness) to prevent dangerous pH drops for fish.

Choosing the right product

The right product depends on the problem and the volume to treat:

  • Green water → green-water treatment (flocculant).
  • Cloudy or milky water → clarifier.
  • New fill or tap-water top-up → conditioner.
  • pH swinging a lot between morning and evening → stabiliser.

Always follow the dose for the volume: overdosing does not clarify faster and can stress the fish.

Is a clarifier dangerous for fish and plants?

Used at the recommended dose, the clarifiers and conditioners in the range are made for a stocked pond. After a treatment that drops a lot of particles, clean the filter more often until the water settles.

AnimalParadise expert tip: write down the exact volume of your pond once and for all. Most dosing mistakes come from a guessed volume, and therefore a wrong dose. Length x width x average depth (in metres) x 1000 = litres.
